In less than a month, Star Atlas sold out. That is good news...except for those who didn't get a physical copy. Well, I guess it won't be long before downloads start appearing somewhere on the internet.

New Sonmi451 album released

Time Released Sound, based in San Fransisco California, has released a new Sonmi451 full length album called "A New Popular Star Atlas". According to the label's website "the album will initially only be available in a limited edition of 100 copies: each of these thermal printed cdr’s will come in a folded sleeve made from a beautifully unique, deep blue antique star chart. Each package will also include a 5″ diameter star finder wheel, and will come in the now ubiquitous square, hand worked/stamped/punched and star spattered translucent envelope..." Helder - Pukkelpop 2011

“Helder” was created on Friday, August 19th 2011, one day after the tragic events at Pukkelpop Festival Hasselt Belgium. I live about 8 miles from the festival, witnessed the storm and was shocked by what had happened at the festival. This is my way to pay tribute to the young people whot lost their lives or were injured that fatal day. “Helder” means “bright” in Dutch, in contrast to that moment on August 18th 6:15 pm, when the sky went dark as on a winter’s night. Very nice review of Ruis on Fluid Radio. Check it out here. Fluid Radio also hosts some very nice mixes, mainly electronic and ambient. Definitely worth to visit !

Ruis: a new Sonmi451-release on Slaapwel Records

I got to know the lovely Belgian Slaapwel Records label in fall 2009 and was impressed by Wim Maesschalks original approach in releasing records. "Nomen est omen" as they say in latin so Wim only releases records that make him fall asleep at night. So I've asked him if I could have a go at it and he agreed. I succeeded in giving him a good night's rest with a 30-minute piece called Ruis (a dutch word for the sound, made by wind in the trees or waves on a shore), composed in november 2009. You can check out the music here.

Those who have been following me a bit via my website http://www.sonmi451.be/ know that I'm into creating ambient music. If you like Shuttle358, Taylor Deupree, Fennesz or Biosphere, you might also like Sonmi451. On a good note U-Cover has released a new Sonmi451-album called Spectrum. It has become a nice droney album. More info here. And there's more music to be released in spring so I'll keep you posted.
